Yesterday I wrote about an Easter Outreach we’re doing that I was very excited about. Today I’d like to share with you another cool thing
that the Lord is making available to us.
On Good Friday, April 22nd, we will be presenting a live simulcast of the Secret Church event. Secret Church is a bi-annual event hosted by The Church at Brook Hills in Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. David Platt, author of a recent book (that made it into my top 10 books ever list) Radical, pastors that church and Secret Church is a ministry he started. Secret Church essentially has two goals: first, to help the church know His Word, and second, to help the church know His persecuted. The persecuted church around the world is practically
unknown to those of us in America, and Secret Church seeks to make us aware of the plight and prayer needs of these saints in suffering. In addition, Sec
ret Church has a lofty goal of giving solid Biblical training on the night of the event, and then translating it into the languages of those believers being persecuted around the world.
So, what does all this mean?
Get this….it means 6 hours of worship, teaching, and prayer for the persecuted church! I know what some of you may be thinking right now. Six hours!!! I went to Birmingham a couple of years ago to attend one of these live at Brook Hills, and it was one of the most amazing evenings I’ve ever experienced. There was a solid commitment to excellent teaching, but also some amazing times of tearful intercession for persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ who are being tortured and sufferng hardships simply because they believe in Jesus. Most American Christians’ jaws will hang wide open when presented with the thought of a 6 hour Bible training and worship event….but consider the believer who runs the risk of losing everything, and yet would do anything to be part of this kind of event. That’s the spirit with which Secret Church is presented.
This Good Friday, we will be presenting this live simulcast from the high school campus of Hebron Christian Academy (where we normally worship on Sundays). This will be Dr. Platt’s 10th session of Secret Church, and the following description of this session’s topic was found on their website:
In the 10th session of Secret Church Dr. David Platt will lead us in a time of Bible Study on Good Friday, the day of Christ’s crucifixion. From cover to cover in Scripture, God’s grand design is to display His glory in the salvation of sinners. The climax of this redemptive plan is the cross of Christ, where God pours out His wrath due sin upon His Son so that we might receive His mercy. But how is Christ’s work on the cross applied to our lives? In the words of the Philippian jailer, “What must we do to be saved?” During this Secret Church, we will explore how the Bible answers this question as we consider God’s love, Christ’s atonement, and the Christian’s conversion, regeneration, justification, sanctification, and eventual glorification. In the end, we will find ourselves boasting only in the cross of Christ, through which we have received the grace of God and by which we now live for the glory of God.
We want our church, our community, and even other churches in our community to be blessed by participating with us. Please join us in being in prayer for this event. We’ll be loading information on the website soon about particulars, and how to get involved to help host this event.
